A sustainable material made from coconut husk and natural binder through innovative
bio processing to replace wood veneer and animal leather.
A project born in the cultural capital of coconut, a young team of innovators and engineers came together with a vision of providing environmentally friendly solutions in a socially cohesive way.
The coconut husk is rich in lignocellulosic fiber with unique properties that is innate due to its evolutionary purpose, i.e. to help survive coconuts at sea for months and absorbing the impact of fall from beyond a height of 20 meters and thus preserving the fruit. The harsh sea water and tallness of the tree has evolved the fiber into a rustic, abrasive and tough raw material making it unique for various industrial applications like geotextiles, mattresses, mooring, carpets etc.
Our team has been imparting this cultural and scientific knowledge of upscaling agro residues from coconut for the modern industry in different countries. Over time, we realized that the applications of the coconut fiber have been trapped in its tradition and history and have not evolved to meet the current needs.
